After serving six years in the British Armed Forces and completing operational tours, Joe made the decision to pursue a new career in healthcare, combining his passion for rehabilitation with a desire to help people achieve meaningful recovery following injury and surgery.
Joe’s interest in hand therapy began while visiting Headley Court, the UK’s former Defence Medical Rehabilitation Centre. Seeing first-hand the impact hand therapists had on the recovery of injured service personnel inspired him to follow a similar path. The specialised nature of hand therapy, together with its ability to make a real difference to a person’s daily life, quickly became an area he was passionate about pursuing.
Since qualifying as an Occupational Therapist, Joe has built more than nine years of experience exclusively within hand and upper limb rehabilitation.
Throughout his career, he has worked across several of the United Kingdom’s most respected hand therapy and trauma services, developing extensive expertise in assessing and treating a wide range of hand, wrist and upper limb conditions.
Joe has held specialist hand therapy roles at leading London hospital trusts, including The Royal London Hospital and University College London Hospital, where he worked closely with orthopaedic, plastic and hand surgeons to support patients through their recovery. He also worked at the internationally recognised Pulvertaft Hand Centre, one of the UK’s leading specialist centres for hand surgery and rehabilitation.
In addition to his clinical roles, Joe managed the hand therapy service at The Cromwell Hospital in Kensington, London. This experience further strengthened his skills in delivering high-quality patient care, collaborating with multidisciplinary teams and supporting patients with both straightforward and complex rehabilitation needs.
Joe has a particular clinical interest in treating distal radius fractures, post-operative hand and wrist rehabilitation, and mallet finger injuries. He enjoys guiding patients through every stage of recovery, from the initial injury or surgery through to regaining strength, function and confidence.
He understands that every person’s goals are different and takes pride in tailoring rehabilitation programs to help patients return to work, sport, hobbies and everyday activities as safely and efficiently as possible.
Joe is known for his calm and approachable manner, clear communication and patient-centred approach to care. He believes that successful rehabilitation is built on collaboration, education and empowering patients to understand their condition and actively participate in their recovery.
Whether someone is recovering from surgery, managing a fracture or dealing with a hand or upper limb injury, Joe’s goal is simple: to provide expert, evidence-informed care that helps people regain function, restore independence and get back to doing the things they enjoy most.
