Hamish graduated from La Trobe University with a Bachelor of Occupational Therapy in 1995. He then left to live in the .United States for the next five years.
It was while working at the Brooklyn Hospital in New York that Hamish was first exposed to hand therapy as a career choice. He was hooked almost immediately by the range of conditions he was exposed to, and the specific knowledge that was required in order to help his patients. He undertook extra studies becoming a Certified Hand Therapist in 2001 and is now recognised as an Accredited Hand Therapist by the Australian Hand Therapy Association.
Since that time Hamish has worked in both public and private hand therapy clinics. He has published several research papers, edited book chapters on rehabilitation of the sporting hand and wrist and presented regularly at national and international conferences. He is the immediate
Past President of the Australian Hand Therapy Association and remains very involved in shaping the future of his profession.
Hamish has a specific interest in managing sports injuries and wrist trauma. He has been the hand therapist for the Hawthorn Football Club since 2013 and a consultant to many elite sporting bodies including Tennis Australia.
Outside of work you will find Hamish running his guts out at the local ParkRun and barracking passionately for his beloved Hawks in the AFL. Luckily for Action Rehab, but not for want of trying, Hamish lacks any skill at football or surfing or golf or tennis or rock-climbing or guitar, and so now dedicates his time to Action Rehab supporting people to overcome their upper limb injuries. Although he did win a flag with the New York Magpies.
Action Rehab provides assessment and treatment for all conditions relating to the upper limb, including scaphoid fractures. Come and see our highly qualified and friendly staff today at a location convenient to you.
