Michael was born and spent most of his life in Johannesburg, South Africa where he attended a premier boys school, highly focused on sports while maintaining a high level of academic proficiency. He has an avid interest in any and all sports having played among others, cricket, hockey, baseball, karate, water polo and golf. Due to his high interest and participation in sport Michael always dreamed of being involved at a high level.

In order to remain a part of such high performance, Michael studied physiotherapy at the University of the Witwatersrand in Johannesburg, attaining a BSc Physiotherapy with Honors. While studying he was the President of the Physiotherapy Students Council and represented physio on the Student Medical Council as well as student rep in the South African Society of Physiotherapy, where he served an extra term as a New Graduate Representative on the council. He also attained the Karen Smuts Award at University for best management project in his final year.

Since graduation he has worked in a variety of settings including neurological rehabilitation, cardiothoracic and cardiovascular rehabilitation, musculoskeletal setting and sports physiotherapy. During this time he worked with the MLB Africa Camp, South African Schools Games and the African Junior Tennis Championship.

With a passion for exercise therapy and prescription, manual therapy and a desire to work at the highest levels Michael completed his Post Graduate Certificate in Sports Physiotherapy with the South African Society of Physiotherapy. Using these skills he went on to work with elite and school level athletes, including Olympic and Commonwealth Medalists, South African champions and various sports teams including the South African National Baseball team at the U23 World Cup and Senior African Championship and Olympic Qualifiers. He has also worked in school rugby organizations such as the Blue Bulls and Golden Lions.

Michael opened his own sports physiotherapy clinic in Pretoria, South Africa building it from the ground up to treat a variety of patients in the sports physiotherapy area.

Due to COVID and the opportunity to challenge himself in a whole new field, Michael made the huge decision to move to Australia with his wife and young son, in 2021.

He is now the clinic manager for the Gippsland Clinics including Drouin, Moe and Traralgon; using his experience as a business owner and experienced physiotherapist to drive the quality of Hand and Upper Limb Therapy in the area.
